More About this Tire Manufacturer: General Tires

 G-MAX RS
 Passenger Tires

The G-MAX RS is General's Ultra High Performance Summer tire designed for the drivers of performance sedans, modern muscle cars, sports cars and sporty coupes looking for bold performance in warm dry and wet conditions. Like all summer tires, the G-MAX RS is not intended to be driven, stored nor serviced in near- or below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

General G-MAX RSA high-performance summer compound is molded into the G-MAX RS's purposeful, directional tread pattern. The solid center rib provides confident on-center feel and aids acceleration and braking, while General's SmartGrip Technology provides crisp steering response and sporty handling. StabiliTread Technology creates a wide contact patch with even pressure distribution to benefit both cornering traction and tire longevity. Wide, angled notches in the intermediate ribs help channel water to the deep circumferential grooves to resist hydroplaning, and along with open shoulder slots create biting edges for traction in slippery conditions.

Internal Construction of the G-MAX RS consists of a single-ply polyester casing. The high-turnup casing improves steering response and results in a two-ply sidewall. Two high-strength steel belts feature a two-ply polyamide reinforcement to further enhance handling, along with providing high-speed capability.

G-MAX RS tires utilizes General's SmartMonitor Technology, with the words "Replacement Tire Monitor" molded into the tire's center rib. When the tire reaches 2/32" remaining tread depth, the Replacement Tire Monitor evolves to read "Replace Tire" alerting the driver the tire has reached the wear bars.

Ultra High Performance Summer tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels, or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Note: Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Ultra High Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. While compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

Red letter sidewall styling is derived from Grabber off-road racing tires and affixed to the tire as a vulcanized label that requires special care and can be damaged by contact with curbs and off-road hazards.

To protect the red lettering, follow these instructions:

  • Do not use gas, alcohol or petroleum based solvents.
  • Do not use direct high-pressure water.

  • Avoid rough brushes or any other abrasive materials.
  • Red Lettering does age during service and may change slightly in appearance:
  • If hit by debris or curbs, the red lettering may show areas of damage.
  • In the case of noticeable discoloration, the red lettering should be cleaned with special car cleaners designed for rubber and plastics.
  • Apply a small amount of cleaner on soft towel and carefully wipe evenly over the red lettering.

The Grabber Arctic LT is General Tire's Light Truck/SUV Studdable Winter / Snow tire developed for the drivers of heavy-duty pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles, full-size vans and commercial vehicles looking for traction on winter's slushy, snow-covered and icy roads. Designed to offer traction in near- and below-freezing temperatures, Grabber Arctic LT winter tires are available in heavy-duty Load Range E sizes and molded to accommodate optional metal studs.

Grabber Arctic LT tires feature a robust cut- and chip-resistant winter compound that maintains flexibility in freezing temperatures. This compound is molded into a broad, symmetric tread design featuring two rows of interlocking center blocks flanked by independent intermediate blocks and squared-off shoulders. The intermediate and shoulder blocks feature reinforcing buttresses on their sides, and the shoulder blocks are circumferentially connected by stepped reinforcement bars to improve handling and braking in all weather conditions. Angled interlocking light truck winter sipes combine dry and wet performance with snow-biting surface edges. Tread block buttresses, stepped reinforcement bars and bottom-of-groove snow traction ridges all work together to increase three-dimensional traction in deep snow. Alternating rows of optional metal studs can be inserted into the shoulder and intermediate tread blocks to increase traction on hard packed snow and icy roads.

The Grabber Arctic LT tire's wide, flat footprint is supported by ultra-high-strength steel belts reinforced with spirally wrapped nylon to deliver exceptional penetration resistance and even footprint pressure for excellent braking and confident stability under all approved load conditions. General Grabber Arctic LT tires meet the industry's severe snow service requirements and are branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol.

Install Grabber Arctic LT tires in sets of four only.

Molded to accept optional 12mm (TSMI #13) gold-colored metallic winter studs.

    History:

Founded in 1915 by William O'Neil and his partner, Winfred Fouse, General Tire and Rubber Company was an outgrowth of Western Tire & Rubber Company. At the time, General Tire entered a market with over 300 competitors, but was determined to get a market share of replacement tire sales. The first tire that General Tire mass-produced was the General Jumbo, a pneumatic truck tire that was first in its class of tire. In the mid-1920's, General invented the General Balloon Jumbos, the first tire to only need 12 pounds of air pressure revolutionizing all tire manufacturing concepts. By 1955, General finally entered the passenger car replacement tire market. General Tire and Rubber Company changed their name in 1984 to GenCorp, Inc, before getting purchased by Continental AG of Hannover, Germany in 1987. Presently, General Tire is wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Tire North America, Inc and leads the pack in development, production, and marketing of quality tires for automobile applications.

General Tire's most popular tire is the Altimax HP. This tire is a high-performance tire that uses advanced technology to give the tire exceptional tread life, low noise, and excellent ride comfort. Visual Alignment Indicators (VAI), Acoustic Modulation Sound Technology (AMST), a Twin Cushion Silica Tread Compound, and Reactive Contour Technology, are technologies used to ensure a quality product. Visual Alignment Indicators (VAI) is a user-friendly application that allows the driver to know when the tread has reached its minimum before needing replacement, with a unique stamp that turns from "Replacement Tire Monitor" to "Replace Tire". Acoustic Modulation Sound Technology (AMST) is a technology that reduces tire noise on roads. A Twin Cushion Tread Compound gives extra support to the tire, allowing for a smooth ride. To add traction, Reactive Contour Technology was used, giving the tires the ability to react to the road surface, giving the driver more control of the car.

The Perfect complement to the high performance vehicle is the General Grabber UHP. This Performance tire ensures confident cornering and stability using high-tech components. Some features of the Grabber UHP are: V-shaped tread pattern with grooves from center of the tire too the shoulders, a flat belt contour, with shallow slots and an increased depth pattern in the shoulder area, and an advanced sound technology with increased noise reduction from varying groove angles.

A light truck option for on and off-road, All-terrain that General Tire manufactures is the Grabber AT². The Graber has a unique self-cleaning tread pattern that gives the tire extremely good traction capabilities. The Grabber AT² has five rows of tread with multiple traction edges, that gives the tire unmatched off-road traction. The extra-deep, highly engineered Acoustic Tread Pattern increases tread life and gives the tire a quiet sound on road and highway driving even with all the traction tread.
